Constitution
of the KPD Israeli Club (aka KPD) (December
15, 2008)
ARTICLE
I - Name
The
name of this student organization shall be the KPD Israeli Club
(aka KPD).
ARTICLE
II - Mission
The
objectives and purposes of KPD shall be:
1. serve the
Philadelphia Jewish community.
2. cooperate and fellowship
between members regardless of religious denomination, including
secular.
3. become leaders and role models.
4. explore and
celebrate the Jewish identity.
5. support the Judaic Studies
Program at Drexel.
6. advocate Israel's right to exist and
flourish as a Jewish State.
7. commit to marry Jewish and to
raise your children to be Jewish.
We are particularly
interested in reaching the commuter students and the students who
live on campus but do not
belong to a fraternity or
sorority.
ARTICLE
III – Membership
1.
Membership in KPD is open to all full-time undergraduate Drexel
University students who are committed to
carrying out the
aforesaid mission of KPD. No discrimination shall take place,
regardless of race, religion, national
origin, gender, sexual
orientation, or ability.
2. Faculty, staff, and those who
are not full-time undergraduate students of Drexel University are
encouraged to
participate in meetings and activities, but may
not receive privileges of membership, may not vote, nor may they
benefit from undergraduate funding (e.g. SAFAC or graduate
fee).
3.The right to run for office or to vote on motions or
for officers is reserved for members in good-standing.
4.
Members may be expelled from KPD for cause
upon (1) the written
recommendation to the Chairperson of the
Membership Committee
with reasons stated, from one officer or two members and (2) a
majority vote of the
membership.
ARTICLE
IV – Officers
1.
The President, Vice President, and Treasurer must be full-time
undergraduate students.
2. Any member in good-standing
within the organization may run for office. .
3. Each
officer will be required to undergo Drexel University’s
student organization leadership orientation (SOOT).
4. The
offices of President, Vice President, and Treasurer must be
occupied at all times. In the event that an officer
resigns or
leaves his or her post for any reason, a special election will be
held as soon as reasonably possible for
his or her
replacement.
5. The inaugural set of officers should serve
until the end of the Spring Term. Thereafter, officer terms shall
be for
at least one full year, Summer Term thru Spring Term.
The term of office shall generally run from the end of the
Spring
Term until the end of the subsequent Spring Term. Elections shall
be held at the annual regular meeting in
May, unless the
President moves it forward because an officer is graduating..
6.
An officer may be removed from office for cause
by appeal to the Chairperson
of the Elections Committee
Motions for removal
shall be made via email to the Chairperson of the Elections
Committee from no less than two
members at least two weeks
before voting can take place, stating the reasons for cause.
Removal will require a vote
of not less than two-thirds of
those voting. The voting shall be by anonymous ballot

form, Student
Organization Annual Recognition Form,
shall be submitted to OCA by the new President
before the first
day of the new fiscal year, July 1.
8. The remaining
officer election procedures shall be specified in the
Bylaws
ARTICLE
V – Advisors
There
shall be two advisors:
1. The Primary Advisor or Advisor
shall be a full-time faculty or full-time staff member who shall be
selected by the
President and approved by a majority of member
votes cast. The tenure of office shall be for one school year
starting July 1. The Advisor shall be a member of the Executive
Board. When a vacancy arises in the position of
Primary
Advisor, the President will seek out a new advisor, who will be
subject to an approval by a majority of
members voting.
2.
The Alumni Advisor shall be an officer of the KPD Drexel
Scholarship Fund and an alumnus of Drexel. He/She
will advise
on matters involving the alumni.
ARTICLE
VI - Executive Board
1.
The Executive Board shall consist of the President, Vice President,
Treasurer, and the Primary Advisor.
2. The Executive Board
should meet once every month to discuss the coordination of events,
the organization’s
progress, the organization’s
finances, the running of the organization, and the general
well-being of the
organization.
3. The Board shall
review the need for and the duties of Standing
Committees.
ARTICLE
VII - Committees
1.
Standing Committees are described in the Bylaws.
2. All
members should serve on at least one committee.
ARTICLE
VIII – Meetings
1.
Meetings are discussed in the ByLaws.
2. In order for a vote
to take place, the meetings must have a quorum of five people, or
one-quarter of the
membership, whichever is greater.
3.
A majority of votes cast is needed for an issue to pass, unless
stricter numbers are specified by the Constitution
or
Bylaws.
4. Members must attend all meetings; exceptions to
this are covered in the Bylaws.
5. Regular meetings shall
have a duration time limit, as specified in the Bylaws.
ARTICLE
IX – Finances
1.
There shall be no membership dues; however, members may sometimes
be asked to pay for transportation or
other expenses as they
arise.
2. KPD will seek to obtain funds through both Drexel
University and through external donors.
ARTICLE
X – Ratification
1.
The Constitution of KPD shall be ratified at the second meeting of
each year by a majority vote of those voting.
The President may
limit debate on this ratification.
2. The intent to ratify
and the URL of the Constitution shall be announced by the President
at the first meeting of
each year.
ARTICLE
XI – Amendments
1.
Any part of the constitution may be amended for good reason, with
the approval of OCA.
2. The President, Vice President, or
Treasurer may propose amendments to the Constitution. Any member
may
also propose an amendment to the Constitution, provided
that they obtain the signatures of a majority of the
membership.
3. A proposed amendment to the Constitution
must be submitted to the Chairperson of the Constitution Committee,
in writing, at least one month before it may be voted on. The
proposed amendment should be published on the KPD
website.
4.
A majority vote of the total membership is required for approval of
an amendment
5. The revised Constitution should be published
on the KPD website..
ARTICLE
XII – Bylaws**
1.
Bylaws are rules, regulations, or procedures specific to KPD which
are not specified in the Constitution.
2. Adoption of the
Bylaws and procedures amending the Bylaws are stated in the
Bylaws.
ARTICLE
XIII – Dissolution
1.
A proposal for voluntary dissolution of KPD must be submitted in
writing to the President along with signatures of
half the
active members at least two months before it may be voted on.
2.
Dissolution of KPD may be accomplished by order of the Office of
Campus Activities (OCA) for cause or
voluntarily by a vote of a
majority of the membership and by at least two of the three
officers.
